| This year we are celebrating 10 years of Relay For Life in the Newcastle & Lake Macquarie area. The idea behind Relay For Life is that cancer doesn’t sleep, so for one night, we won’t either! It’s not a race, but an event to recognise and support those in our community touched by cancer. It is an outdoor, team event where teams of 10-15 people take turns to walk or run around our local sports ground. A festival atmosphere is created with entertainment, food, ceremonies, team games, market stalls, kids’ activities, prizes, colour, fun and community spirit! There's even fireworks at 9pm! It’s an overnight event, so you can camp out with the community, or visit at some stage over the weekend. The money raised helps Cancer Council NSW continue its mission to defeat cancer. Join us on the 6th & 7th of November for a weekend of celebration, remembrance, hope and fighting back! |

| Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) is the leading cause of YOUTH BLINDNESS. 1 in 3,000 BABIES ARE BORN WITH RP. 1 in 80 PEOPLE CARRY THE RECESSIVE GENE THAT MAY CAUSE BLINDNESS. RP is only second to Diabetes as a cause of blindness in the working-age population. Human trials began last year using Gene Therapy and results look promising and RETINA AUSTRALIA has initiated an Australia-wide Inherited Retinal Disease Registry and DNA Bank. Please BUY an OWL BADGE for $2 or a MINI TORCH for $4 to help us fund continuing research. They are available from HCF Branches throughout September, and from participating Optometrists. Or please buy some beautiful Yates Cosmos 'Bright Eyes' seeds, available at all Yates seed outlets - 40 cents from every packet sold is donated to Retina Australia. *Donations of $2.00 or more are tax deductable |
